Who is Andrew McMurray?

Andrew McMurray studied marketing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car and in restaurant management before entering the wine business. His father-in-law, Don Zacharia, CEO of Zachys Wine & Liquor, recruited him into the family company; McMurray started at a Los Angeles wine store and went from warehouse work to general manager in three years before becoming vice president of Zachys in Scarsdale, New York. Zipz came out of a request from the New York Mets for a better way to serve wine at Citi Field. Working with a designer and an investor, McMurray co-developed a stackable single-serve wine glass with a peel-off lid.

On Shark Tank Season 6 (2014), Kevin O'Leary agreed to $2.5 million for 10%, with an option to invest $2.5 million more, then the largest deal in the show's history. Production grew to about 100,000 cases a year by 2016, but the company did not become profitable, a planned Costco deal fell through and the brand went quiet after 2016. McMurray continues as vice president of Zachys.
