Who is Marc Newburger?
Marc Newburger worked in Hollywood in the 1990s, including starring in a short film, and later made a living as a nutrition coach alongside his friend and roommate Jeffrey Simon. The idea for Drop Stop came from a near-miss in 2006: while driving on the Sunset Strip, his phone fell into the gap between his seat and the center console, and reaching for it nearly sent him into a pedestrian and a metal pole. When Simon said the same thing had happened to him, the two set out to build a fix. After months of prototyping, starting with a dress sock and a car sponge, they settled on a neoprene seat-gap filler.
On Shark Tank Season 4, they asked $300,000 for 15% and accepted Lori Greiner's $300,000 for 20%. Greiner put the product on QVC, and it went on to sell at Walmart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond and Staples and to become a top automotive accessory on Amazon. Drop Stop reported $24 million in cumulative sales by 2017 and more than $40 million by 2024.
