Who is Julia Cheek?
Julia Cheek studied economics and psychology at Vanderbilt University, began her career at Deloitte in 2005, and went on to earn an MBA from Harvard Business School. She later worked on leadership recruiting at the George W. Bush Presidential Center and in corporate strategy at MoneyGram. After an expensive round of lab testing left her with bills and little explanation, she founded Everlywell, which sells at-home lab test kits processed by certified partner labs and reviewed by physicians, and moved to Austin in 2016 to build it.
Cheek had already raised about $5 million in venture funding when she pitched on Shark Tank in Season 9, where Lori Greiner agreed to a $1 million deal for 5%, then one of the largest valuations given to a solo female founder on the show. Everlywell raised $50 million in 2019 and $75 million in 2021. That year it acquired PWNHealth and Home Access Health and formed the parent company Everly Health, valued at about $2.2 billion. Cheek leads Everly Health as founder and CEO and serves on the board of Headspace.
