Who is Kat Nouri?

Kat Nouri was born in Iran, moved to the San Francisco Bay Area at age ten and studied at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2006 she founded Modern Twist, a housewares company that designs and makes food-grade silicone products, and ran it for about a decade. She used profits from Modern Twist to launch Stasher in 2016, making reusable platinum silicone storage bags as an alternative to single-use plastic. On Shark Tank Season 9 (January 2018), several sharks said the bags were too expensive, but Mark Cuban offered $400,000 plus a $400,000 line of credit for 15%.

The deal fell apart during due diligence; Nouri has said she wanted to keep running the company her way. Stasher grew anyway, reaching Target, Anthropologie and Goop and winning a Red Dot design award. SC Johnson acquired Stasher in December 2019. Nouri stepped back as CEO, became the brand's ambassador and continues to run Modern Twist.

Kat Nouri from CA pitched Stasher in Shark Tank Season 9, Episode 15 (aired Jan 7, 2018). They asked for $400,000 in exchange for 5% equity, valuing the business at $8M. The entrepreneurs walked away with a deal from Mark Cuban: $400,000 for 15%. That put the final valuation at $2.67M, 67% below what they originally asked for.
