Who is Judy Edwards?

Judy Edwards had started and exited several businesses with her husband, Bill, before Squatty Potty. In 2010, after the 2008 real estate downturn had cut deeply into the family's finances, Judy, Bill and their son Bobby built the first Squatty Potty in their garage: a footstool that sits at the base of a toilet to put the user in a squatting posture. The first stools were wood; the family later invested in injection-molding equipment to scale up. Judy became the company's public face, known as "Mama Squatty," promoting the product on TV and radio.

Squatty Potty appeared on Shark Tank in Season 6, where Lori Greiner invested $350,000 and helped place the product at Bed Bath & Beyond. Sales went from $17,000 in 2011 to about $19 million in 2015, helped by a viral unicorn ad with more than 100 million views, and reached nearly $33 million in 2017. Aterian bought the brand's assets in May 2021. Judy and Bill later stepped back from day-to-day operations.
