Who is Jared Ebersole?

Jared Ebersole, from Catawissa, Pennsylvania, co-founded Lectec, which sells kits that let students build their own electric skateboards and other battery-powered vehicles. He started young: Ebersole graduated from Southern Columbia Area High School in 2019 and had already founded an earlier venture, Build Kit Boards, in 2017, which he says brought in more than $1 million in revenue. Lectec began after he gave his nephew an electric skateboard for Christmas in 2021 and found the boy more interested in how it worked than in riding it, so the two took it apart. Ebersole and his college friend Luke St. Amand turned that experience into a STEM kit, testing early prototypes with about 30 local families in 2022 and piloting the kits at a Long Island high school.

In 2024 the company launched Lectec Academy, an online learning platform to accompany the kits. Lectec had about $146,000 in sales when the founders appeared on Shark Tank in Season 16, asking for $100,000 for 10%. Robert Herjavec offered $100,000 for 15%, and they accepted. The company sells its kits online and has worked with schools.
