Who is Kausi Raman?

Kausi Raman is a product designer and co-founder of ChompShop, the Philadelphia company behind the ChompSaw. She came up with the idea during a class in the University of Pennsylvania product design master's program, where she met co-founder Max Liechty. The goal was a tool that would let children build with cardboard safely and teach design thinking, while giving families something to do with delivery boxes. The ChompSaw cuts by pinching away small pieces of cardboard, which lets young kids use a powered tool without a blade.

Raman has noted that seeing a small child use a power tool tends to shock people, which has helped the brand's social media posts spread. A Kickstarter campaign in October 2023 aimed for $50,000 and raised about $1.2 million, and the company sold roughly 10,000 units and $2.1 million in its first year. On Shark Tank in Season 16 the founders asked for $250,000 for 5%. Several sharks bid, and they accepted $250,000 for 15% from Mark Cuban and Lori Greiner, with Cuban calling it a potential hot product for Christmas.
