Who is Luke St. Amand?

Luke St. Amand is an engineer who left a job at Amazon to work full-time on Lectec, the STEM company he co-founded with his college friend Jared Ebersole. Lectec sells kits that let middle school, high school and college students assemble their own electric skateboards, with scooters and bikes in development. The idea grew out of Ebersole's experience taking apart an electric skateboard with his nephew in 2021; the partners tested prototypes with about 30 families in 2022 and ran a pilot at a Long Island high school.

St. Amand, who had no prior app development experience, built the company's online learning platform, Lectec Academy, using no-code tools in about two months; it launched in February 2024 and the company says it has served more than 15,000 students. Lectec had about $146,000 in sales when it was selected for Shark Tank in Season 16. The founders asked for $100,000 for 10%, and Robert Herjavec offered $100,000 for 15%, which they accepted.

St. Amand has since demonstrated the kits for high school classes, and the company plans to add new vehicles and Raspberry Pi modules.
