Who is Charlie Greene?
Charlie Greene is a Greenwich, Connecticut, native and co-founder and CEO of Remento, a service that turns recorded family stories into printed memory books. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 2021 and started the company that year with initial funding from Upfront Ventures. The idea grew out of oral history interviews he recorded with his own mother. Remento sends weekly text or email prompts, often a photo or question chosen by relatives, to an older family member, who answers by speaking. The company's speech-to-story technology uses AI to turn those recordings into written narratives, which are printed in a hardcover book with QR codes linking back to the original audio.
An annual subscription costs $99 and includes one book. Greene has said the goal is to use AI to help people do something they always meant to do and make it feel humanlike. On Shark Tank in Season 16 he struck a deal with Mark Cuban, who invested $300,000 for 10%. Remento has raised about $4.3 million in total and continues to sell its books online.
