Who is Brittane Rowe?
Brittane Rowe is a Michigan native, 2011 Michigan State University graduate and former theater actor and beauty influencer who now runs Awkward Games, maker of the Hella Awkward conversation card game. During the pandemic lockdowns she and co-founders Jane Lim and Brandon Rhodes created the game to help friends, couples and coworkers get past small talk with deliberately uncomfortable questions. It launched in mid-2021 and grew from about $90,000 in first-year sales to $250,000 in its third year, with lifetime sales near $600,000 by the time of her Shark Tank appearance. The game expanded into Target, where its footprint grew to about 520 stores, and Walmart, where it launched in about 600 stores, and it also sells on Amazon.
Rowe, who is based in New York, pitched Hella Awkward in Season 16, asking for $200,000 for 10%. Lori Greiner and Kevin O'Leary made offers, but Rowe accepted Robert Herjavec's offer matching her ask. She has since been named an entrepreneur-in-residence at Michigan State's Burgess Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation for 2025 to 2027.
